Canadian Chemistry Challenge
The Canadian Chemistry Challenge (CCC) is a national competition for high school students in Canada, organized by the Chemical Institute of Canada. It aims to inspire students' interest in chemistry and test their knowledge through challenging problems.
The competition consists of a preliminary written exam, covering topics like inorganic and organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and analytical techniques. Top scorers advance to the final round, where they participate in more advanced individual and team-based challenges, including laboratory experiments.
The CCC provides an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their chemistry skills, gain recognition, and even win scholarships or represent Canada in international chemistry competitions.

Preliminary Round
The CCC's first stage, held in spring, is a written exam with multiple-choice and short-answer questions. It covers high school chemistry topics like inorganic, organic, physical, and analytical chemistry. The exam tests students’ understanding and problem-solving abilities. Top performers advance to the Final Round. The exam lasts 2–3 hours.
Final Round
Held in summer, the Final Round is an in-person event. It includes individual challenges, team challenges, and experimental tasks. Students solve complex problems, collaborate on real-world issues, and demonstrate lab skills. The final round lasts 1–2 days, and top winners may represent Canada in international competitions like the IChO.
This is an incredible opportunity to challenge yourselves, deepen your understanding of biology, and push your intellectual limits. The journey will not only help you expand your knowledge, but it will also encourage you to think critically, solve complex problems, and develop the skills that will serve you throughout your academic and professional life.
The BBO is not just about winning or competing against others—it's about personal growth, discovering your passion for biology, and gaining confidence in your abilities. Embrace the challenges, stay curious, and enjoy the learning process. I believe each of you has the potential to excel, and I’m excited to see how you will develop along the way.
Participating in the Canadian Chemistry Challenge (CCC) enhances your university applications by showcasing strong problem-solving, analytical, and chemistry skills. Top performances may lead to scholarships, research opportunities, or priority admission at leading universities. It strengthens your academic portfolio and demonstrates your commitment to excellence.
The skills gained from the CCC—critical thinking, teamwork, and lab experience—are highly valued in fields like chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and technology. Strong CCC performance can boost your resume and give you an edge in job applications or internships, particularly in scientific and technical roles.
